Location

The creation of a guided interpretive walk will meet Parks Canada's stated goal for more front-country visitor experiences (view from the edge of wilderness) that will appeal to a broad cross section of society serving to strengthen the connection of all Canadians to their National Parks.

The combination of the Glacier Discovery Walk with the existing Glacier Discovery Centre and Columbia Icefield Glacier Adventure will create a collection of visitor experiences along the Icefields Parkway that will serve as a draw for local, regional and international visitors.

Brewster is committed to providing this experience within the one per cent Zone 3 footprint of Jasper National Park set aside by Parks Canada to provide infrastructure and services for visitors while actively working to preserve the back country or ninety-nine per cent of Jasper National Park zoned as a pure wilderness environment.

Map - Tangle Ridge Viewpoint

The Glacier Discovery Walk will be located at the current location of the Tangle Ridge Viewpoint overlooking the Sunwapta Valley, on Highway 93, the Icefields Parkway, in Jasper National Park. The Viewpoint is approximately 6.5 kilometers north of the Glacier Discovery Centre.

Current Site

The current Tangle Ridge Viewpoint is a 500 metre long “pull-out” on the west side of the Icefields Parkway at the crest of Tangle Ridge. There are currently two walls at the north and south ends of the pull-out separating the highway from the cliff. There is paved parking for approximately 60 vehicles and three viewpoints for visitors surrounded by a 1 metre high chain-link fence. The intent is to maintain the same footprint as the existing Tangle Ridge Viewpoint along the highway.
